What is Honors Carolina?
Honors Carolina is a remarkable collection of courses, special events, and learning opportunities geared toward the top students at Carolina. It is the University’s way of investing in truly exceptional undergraduate students by providing academic and non-academic challenges and opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom.
Honors Carolina Courses
Honors Carolina students receive priority registration for more than 160 Honors courses each year. These are small classes, taught by award-winning professors who encourage classroom discussion and hands-on research. View a list of current Honors Carolina courses.
Academic Requirements
Honors Carolina students are required to take a minimum of two Honors courses each academic year (most take more) and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.000 or greater.
Honors Carolina students who successfully defend a Senior Honors Thesis within their chosen major will graduate with Honors or Highest Honors. All Honors Carolina students in good standing receive a notation on their transcript indicating membership in Honors Carolina, regardless of whether or not they complete a Senior Thesis.
Events & Experiences
Honors Carolina provides special opportunities to conduct original research with a faculty mentor; study abroad in cities such as Cape Town, London, Singapore, and Rome; and build personal relationships with professors, fellow scholars, and alumni by participating in special Honors Carolina events.
Honors Housing
Honors Carolina students are not limited in where they can live. If you would like to live with a fellow Honors student, you will be matched (based on preferences) and assigned to Koury Residence Hall (one of our newest residence halls) on a first-come, first-served basis.
