Applications to become a student-instructor are submitted in the Spring semester in the year before the C-START student-instructor will teach. Students are chosen that same semester. For example, a student-instructor interested in teaching in 2017-2018 should apply in Spring 2017 and will be notified before the end of the semester.
Students interested in teaching a C-START course must have a 3.0 GPA, completed four semesters at UNC, earned 75 credit hours (including placement credits) by the end of the Spring 2017 semester, and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.000 or higher. (Junior transfer students are exempt from the four semester requirement.)
Submit An Application
The application period for students interested in teaching a C-START course during 2017-2018 academic year is open now.
Students are required to submit the following materials:
- Description of the proposed course
- Student’s qualifications to teach that course
- Letter of support from a faculty mentor (sent separately by the faculty)
All application materials, including the faculty letter of support, are due to Honors Carolina by Monday, April 10, 2017 at 12:00 pm.
Students who are accepted into C-START will work under the supervision of a faculty mentor during the Fall 2017 semester to prepare their course. Students will be required to participate in a series of workshops conducted by the Center for Faculty Excellence, and course syllabi must be approved by the C-START oversight committee.
