Coffee & Conversations: Dan Fitz – New York Attorney/England & Wales Solicitor

Dan Fitz is a double Tarheel — a 1981 graduate of UNC-CH with Honors and distinctions in economics, and a 1985 JD with Honors. He is also a 1982 graduate of the London School of Economics with distinction in international and comparative politics. Dan is barred in New York and a solicitor in England & Wales. Dan currently works with Barnes & Thornburg, LLP (BT). Dan Fitz joined BT in April 2010 as its group general counsel, and was appointed Group General Counsel and Company Secretary in November 2012. His career has been characterized by his innovative nature, his efforts to develop BT Legal’s service model and, related to that, BT Law. Prior to joining BT, Dan served as the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Company Secretary of Misys PLC. He also spent 12 years at Cable & Wireless PLC – his last four as General Counsel– early on in his career, a formative time for him as an in-house counsel. In 2009, Dan was Chair of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC); he is a member of the GC 100 and the European General Counsel Association; and has appeared on the Financial Times OUTstanding list of the top 100 LGBT+ Executives for each of the last three years.
