Before you even begin your college career, Honors Carolina sponsors four programs for incoming first year students that provide a preview of the opportunities you’ll enjoy. Meet distinguished Carolina alumni, take part in workshops with UNC faculty and enjoy behind-the-scenes access to a variety of research, cultural, and historic sites.

Entrepreneurship in Action

June 25-26, 2018

Two-day program @ UNC features visits with alumni in the Research Triangle Park, opportunities to connect with the UNC entrepreneurial network, thought-provoking conversations with distinguished Carolina faculty, staff, and alumni, and insider tips on maximizing the Honors Carolina experience to launch your academic and career goals. Heels In Health Care [PROGRAM HAS FILLED]

June 25-26, 2018

Heels Health CareStudents interested in health care and biomedical research get a special introduction to UNC Health Care, including the opportunity to shadow UNC physicians. This two-day program provides an opportunity to connect with UNC Health Care professionals, become familiar with UNC Health Care facilities and get advice on building an application for medical school during the next four years. London Calling! [PROGRAM HAS FILLED]

June 29 – July 7, 2018

p_london_DSC_0759Travel to London where you’ll spend the week at Winston House, Honors Carolina’s European study center located in the heart of London’s historic Bloomsbury district. Meet distinguished Honors Carolina alumni in a variety of field and get a taste of UNC’s wide-ranging global connections.

Recent programs have included discussions of diplomacy with Sir Christopher Meyer, former British Ambassador to the United States; tours of Stratford upon-Avon, where William Shakespeare came of age, followed by a performance of “Othello”; visits to private art galleries with Adrian Biddell, an Honors Carolina alumnus and partner at Waterhouse & Dodd; and discussions of global finance with Honors Carolina parent Colin Grassie, Duetsche Bank’s UK CEO. Sawubona, South Africa

July 21 – 30, 2018

p_southafrica_dsc_0800Travel to Cape Town, South Africa, home to a thriving Honors Study Abroad program that allows students to immerse themselves in the ongoing work of building a multiracial democracy from the ruins of apartheid and delight in South Africa’s natural wonders.

Recent summer discovery programs have included visits with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Chris Ahrends, founding director of the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre; a hike to the top of Table Mountain, Cape Town’s most widely recognized landmark and home to more than 8,200 species of plants; a tour of Robben Island Museum, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned; and an overnight stay at Khayelitsha, the largest of the informal settlements that surround Cape Town. Download the 2018 program overview.
