This six-week program will explore how Great Britain’s natural landscapes have shaped literary imagination, our conceptions of urban versus rural environments, and our relationships with both modernity and the natural world. Time on the program will be split between London, the Lake District, and Oxford, destinations known for their contributions to British literature.

The program will feature site visits to various museums and homes of authors like John Keats and William Wordsworth, among others. All the while, we will study a selection of British authors from the Romantic era, the Victorian era, and the early Modernist period, including (but not limited to) Mary Shelley, Christina Rossetti, Charles Darwin, Alfred Tennyson, Beatrix Potter, Thomas Hardy, and J. R. R. Tolkien.
