Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) Mellon Fellowship for Dissertation Research in Original Sources

Fellowships support dissertation research in the humanities or related social sciences that makes extensive and innovative uses of original sources in libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, and related repositories in the U.S. and abroad. The fellowship does not support the creation of primary source materials. The fellowship offers support for 9-12 months.

The purposes of this fellowship program are to:

  • help junior scholars in the humanities and related social sciences gain skill and creativity in developing knowledge from original sources;
  • enable dissertation writers to do research wherever relevant sources may be, rather than just where financial support is available;
  • encourage more extensive and innovative uses of original sources in libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, and related repositories in the U.S. and abroad; and
  • capture insights into how scholarly resources can be developed for access most helpfully in the future.

Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) Postdoctoral Fellowship in Data Curation for the Sciences and Social Sciences

These two-year fellowships, which are partially supported by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, will provide recent Ph.D.s with professional development, education, and training opportunities in software and data curation for the sciences and social sciences. The fellows’ work must draw upon their disciplinary expertise in order to help advance data curation practices and services at their host institutions.

Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) Postdoctoral Fellowship in Academic Libraries

he CLIR Postdoctoral Fellowship Program offers recent Ph.D. graduates the chance to develop research tools, resources, and services while exploring new career opportunities. CLIR Postdoctoral Fellows work on projects that forge and strengthen connections among library collections, educational technologies, and current research. These fellowships are flexible within the program’s overall goals and guidelines and can be designed as best suits an institution’s individual needs. The one- to two-year positions are for recent Ph.D. graduates working in any discipline.

These two-year fellowships, which are supported by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, will provide five recent Ph.D.s with professional development, education, and training opportunities in data curation for African American and African Studies. The fellows’ work must draw upon their disciplinary expertise in order to help advance data curation practices and services at their host institutions.

Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Minority Fellowship Program for Doctoral Students in Mental Health and Substance Abuse

Fellowships support students pursuing a doctoral degree in social work whose career goal is to provide leadership in practice, research, teaching, and policy promulgation in government and private organizations serving underrepresented and underserved persons with or at risk for mental health and/or substance abuse disorders. The fellowship offers support for one year with possible renewal for up to three years.

Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Minority Fellowship Program for Master’s Students in Mental Health Services for Youth

Fellowships support master’s students who are committed to providing mental health services to at-risk children, adolescents, and transition-age youths (aged 16–25) in underserved minority communities. The program seeks to reduce health disparities and improve behavioral health-care outcomes for racial and ethnically diverse children, adolescents, and/or transition- age youths by increasing the number of culturally competent master’s-level social work professionals serving this population. Fellows receive specialized training on mental health issues of children, adolescents, and transition age youths as part of the fellowship. The fellowship offers support for one academic year.

Crane Award

The Julia Crane Award, named in honor of the late Julia Crane, Professor of Anthropology, recognizes excellence in undergraduate work by a rising senior conducting research leading to an undergraduate honors thesis on a Latin American or Caribbean topic. The award defrays the cost of summer travel to Latin America or the Caribbean. The competition is not restricted by discipline or department. Awardees are expected to complete their honors thesis during the academic year following the award. Students must be an undergraduate student (from any department or major) conducting research in Latin America or the Caribbean leading to an honors thesis and be engaged in a departmental honors program.

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art Tyson Scholars Program

Fellowships support full-time residential scholarship in the history of American art, visual and material culture from the colonial period to the present. Tyson Scholars have access to the art and library collections of Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, Arkansas, as well as the library at the University of Arkansas in nearby Fayetteville. Scholars will have the opportunity to interact with Crystal Bridges’ curatorial and research staff, as well as the community, through lectures, symposia, and collaborations with the University of Arkansas. The fellowship offers support for six weeks to ninbe months.
