Fellowships support dissertation research or write-up by doctoral students studying American art.  Fellowships may be carried out in residence at the Fellow’s home institution, abroad, or at another appropriate site for the research. Fellowships may not be used to defray tuition costs or be held concurrently with any other major fellowship or grant. The term of the fellowship is one year.

American Council of Learned Societies / Henry Luce Foundation (ACLS/Luce) – Early Career Fellowship in China Studies

The fellowship supports scholars who are preparing or augmenting their Ph.D. dissertation research for publication or embarking on new research projects. Applications in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences are welcome. The program supports the study of Chinese culture and society in all periods. Research in Hong Kong, Tibet, or Taiwan is eligible. Postdoctoral fellowships support work based on the applicant’s research in China that aims to produce a scholarly text in English. The fellowship is for one to two semesters.

American Council of Learned Societies / Henry Luce Foundation (ACLS/Luce) – Predissertation Summer Travel Grants in China Studies

rants provide funding for doctoral candidates to conduct preliminary research in China prior to beginning basic research for the dissertation. They are intended to allow recipients to investigate the research currently underway in Chinese archives and field sites, to establish contact with Chinese scholars, and to secure necessary permissions for their own fieldwork or archival research. Applications in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences are welcome. The program supports the study of Chinese culture and society in all periods. Research in Hong Kong, Tibet, and Taiwan is eligible. The tenure of the grant is 3-4 months.

American Council of Learned Societies: Emerging Voices Fellowship

The program allows recent PhDs in the humanities and humanistic social sciences to take up one-year positions at select institutions in ACLS’s Research University Consortium for the 2021-22 academic year.

American Councils Eurasian Regional Language Program (ERLP)

offers intensive, highly-individualized instruction in more than 15 Eurasian languages, including Armenian, Azerbaijani, Dari, Farsi, Georgian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Romanian, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Uzbek. Through homestays, cultural activities, and conversation partners, participants enjoy an unprecedented opportunity to immerse themselves in daily local life while receiving ongoing support and guidance from American Councils expert, overseas staff. Must have completed at least two semesters of college-level instruction or the equivalent in the target language, Russian, or a related language.

American Councils for International Education (ACIE) Advanced Russian Language & Area Studies Program (RLASP)

provide undergraduate and graduate academic year, semester, and summer programs with in-class instruction in Russian grammar, phonetics, conversation, and cultural studies in Russia or Kazakhstan. Includes homestays, weekly excursions, travel to other regions of Russia/Kazakhstan, conversation partners, and a wide range of opportunities to pursue internships, volunteering, hobbies, and personal interests in a Russian-language context. Credit for area studies coursework is offered in such subjects as literature and history, political science, and contemporary society. All courses are taught in Russian by expert faculty with experience teaching foreign students.

American Councils for International Education (ACIE) Combined Research and Language Training (CRLT) Program

provides full support for U.S. graduate students to conduct in-country, independent research in Russia, Eurasia, and Eastern Europe, while increasing proficiency in languages of the region. Fellowships last three to nine consecutive months and include round-trip international travel; housing and living stipends; visa support; overseas health, accident, and evacuation insurance; archive access; weekly language instruction in the host country language; and logistical support. Following the completion of the research term, fellows will return to the U.S. and share their findings through presentations, articles, and lectures in order to strengthen and broaden current scholarship on the region.

American Councils for International Education (ACIE) Research Scholars Program

provides full support for U.S. graduate students, faculty, and independent scholars seeking to conduct in-country, independent research for three consecutive months to nine consecutive months in Russia, Eurasia, and Eastern Europe. All funded research must contribute to a body of knowledge enabling the U.S. to better understand the region and formulate effective policies within it. All applicants should clearly describe the policy-relevance of their work, be it in anthropology, history, international relations, political science, or some other field.

American Diabetes Association Postdoctoral Fellowships

The ADA offers two types of postdoctoral fellowships for training in topics relevant to diabetes: one for all eligible scientists, the other for underrepresented populations. Fellowships provide up to three years of support.
