Let’s Talk Roundtables are weekly interactive drop-in sessions for Honors Carolina students to learn and discuss a rotating series of Career Planning Topics with an Honors Coach. Free form and dynamic, they can be attended in any sequence. Come to the topics that interest YOU, skip the rest.

While workshops and training sessions help you understand the “What” and “How,” these roundtables are built to help you understand the “Why.”

Letters, Essays & Applications

Today’s Roundtable will focus on the additional documents beyond a resume/CV that you may be asked to provide for a job, internship, or graduate school application. These can be cover letters, letters of interest, essays, or  application questionnaires. While resumes and CVs are skill/impact-oriented, these additional documents are critical in explaining what drives you and your journey, as opposed to just listing your achievements.

The following are some of the things we will discuss:

Should I include a cover letter if it is optional?
Should I use the same Cover Letter for all my applications?
What is a letter of intent?
What is the difference between writing a letter, an essay and a story?
How does a cover letter work with my resume?
