Scholarships

Scholarships support Native American students pursuing degrees at all levels.

Scholarships support scholars, historians and writers who study the history of cancer, women in science, molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, plant biology, the intersection of biology and physics, and other topics relating to the molecular biology revolution. The scholarship is intended to fund travel and other expenses associated with working on the project, including use of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Archives collections and sources at other locations. Each year, the Colin Higgins Foundation salutes and celebrates courage in the face of adversity and discrimination by awarding $10,000 individual grants to: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Two Spirit, Queer and Questioning youth activists (through age 20) who have transformed their experiences with bigotry and discrimination into opportunities to inspire others by taking action, rallying support, building community, and working to change the systems and institutions that impact their lives.

supports promising artists, designers, craftspersons, historians, curators, and critics who are enrolled in MFA, PhD, and other terminal degree programs. One award will be presented to a practitioner—an artist, designer, and/or craftsperson—and one award will be presented to an art, architecture, and/or design historian, curator, or critic. Fellows also receive a free, one-year CAA membership and complimentary registration to the Annual Conference

Travel grants support researchers who wish to use the College’s collection of texts, manuscripts, archives, images, artifacts, and specimens in the history of medicine, including College library holdings and the artifact & specimen collection of the Mütter Museum. Grants are intended to help defray the costs of travel and lodging. Grants are for 1-2 weeks.

Fellowships allow postdoctoral scholars to build a foundation in one of the core disciplines represented within the Earth Institute (i.e. social, earth, biological, engineering, and health sciences), while acquiring the breadth of cross-disciplinary expertise needed to address critical issues related to sustainable development. Specific areas of research include food security, energy systems, climate change impacts, poverty reduction, disease, and environmental degradation. Appointments are for 24 months.

Fellowships support postdoctoral scholars conducting research on topics in Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies. Fellows teach a course of their own design in the spring semester of each year.The fellowships offer support for two years.

The Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students (CUSDS) supports displaced students from anywhere in the world who are unable to complete their higher education. These students will receive full tuition, housing, and living assistance while pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees across all 18 Columbia schools and affiliates, reflecting Columbia’s full institutional commitment to addressing this global crisis.

Fellowships support postdoctoral research exploring and clarifying the interrelationships within the humanities as well as their relationship to the natural and social sciences. Fellows carry out their research and teach within humanities departments at Columbia University. During the first year, fellows teach one course per semester. At least one of these courses will be in the undergraduate general education program as part of the core curriculum. In the second and third year, fellows teach one course per year. The fellowship offers support for three years.

The program promotes the recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty at the College by advancing the careers of individuals from groups in US society that have been historically underrepresented in the academic profession. Fellows develop a program of research, teach one course per year, and participate as an active community member in the life of a graduate research university. The fellowship offers support for one academic year with possible renewable for a second year.
