Scholarships

Dumbarton Oaks offers residential fellowships in three areas of study: Byzantine Studies (including related aspects of late Roman, early Christian, Western medieval, Slavic, and Near Eastern studies), Pre-Columbian Studies (of Mexico, Central America, and Andean South America), and Garden and Landscape Studies. Fellowships are open to graduate students and recent PhD graduates.

The Association offers grants for research relating to its mission to preserve and present historic trades, crafts, and tools, and interprets their impact on our lives. The research grant may be used to supplement existing fellowships, scholarships, or other forms of aid. It may not be used to pay for salaries, historical artifacts, software or equipment in whole or in part.

Fellowships offer support for research that contributes to the science and practice of earthquake hazard mitigation and fits with the goals and activities of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program. The fellowship offers support for one year.

Unrestricted seed-stage funding and foundational support for social entrepreneurs.

Fellowships support doctoral research on every phase of economic history, broadly defined. Three fellowships are available each year (students submit only one application to be eligible for all three). The fellowships offer support for one year.

cash awards to promising doctoral students working in the area of foreign or second language assessment that will help them finish their dissertations in a timely manner.

offered to students enrolled in master’s and doctoral programs in institutions around the world in language testing, language education, applied linguistics or related fields. Priority for the Research Grants for Graduate Students will be given to TOEFL YSS-related research or foundational research related to young students of English as a Foreign Language (EFL).

During the summer, selected fellows are required to participate in the Summer Internship Program in Research for Graduate Students, working under the guidance of an ETS mentor. During the subsequent academic year, fellows study at their universities and carry out research under the supervision of an academic mentor and in consultation with their ETS mentor with the goal of  increasing the number of well-trained scientists in educational assessment, psychometrics and statistics.

Individuals who have earned their doctoral degree within the last three years are invited to apply for a rewarding fellowship experience which combines working on cutting-edge ETS research projects and conducting independent research that is relevant to ETS’s goals. The fellowship is carried out in the ETS offices in Princeton, N.J.

Interns participate in research under the guidance of an ETS mentor. The internship is carried out in the ETS offices in Princeton, N.J., in selected annual language learning research areas. The internship is for eight weeks.
