Freie Universitat Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies – Dissertation & Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Berlin Program provides dissertation and postdoctoral residential fellowships for North American scholars specializing in modern and contemporary Germany and Europe. The program supports scholars in all social science and humanities disciplines, including historians working on the period since the mid-18th century. Fellowships must be held for a single continuous period. The fellowship offers support for 10-12 months.

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowships

The Fulbright-Hays DDRA Fellowship Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, provides opportunities for graduate students to conduct full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. Allowable projects are those that focus on one or more of the following geographic areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Near East, Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere (excluding the United States and its territories).
