The Fund provides financial support to offer highly qualified scientists the opportunity to pursue research into the causes, origins and treatment of cancer. Japan Foundation Short and Long-Term Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Japanese Studies

The Foundation provides support to scholars in the field of Japanese Studies by offering the opportunity to conduct research in Japan through the following fellowship programs:

Scholars and Researchers – Long-term (2-12 months)
Scholars and researchers in the humanities or social sciences who hold a Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience at the time of application.

Scholars and Researchers – Short-term (21-59 days)
Scholars and researchers in the humanities and social sciences who need to conduct intensive short-term research in Japan and who hold a Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience at the time of application.

Doctoral Candidates (4-12 months)
Doctoral candidates in the humanities or social sciences who have achieved ABD status by the time the fellowship begins.

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Long-Term Postdoctoral Fellowships in Humanities, Social Sciences & Natural Sciences for Foreign Researchers

Fellowships provide opportunities for young and excellent postdoctoral researchers from other countries to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions. Applicants must identify a host at an eligible institution (see application guidelines). The fellowships are for 12-24 months.

Japan-International Monetary Fund (IMF) Scholarship Program for Advanced Studies (JISP) Doctoral Studies in Macroeconomics

JISP supports Japanese nationals obtaining PhD degrees in macroeconomics, preparing them to work as economists at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The scholarship is funded by the government of Japan and administered by the IMF Institute with assistance from the Institute of International Education (IIE). All award recipients are required to apply to the IMF’s Economist Program (EP) upon completion of their doctoral studies and to accept an EP position if offered. Scholars who do not comply with this condition will be asked to repay the scholarship cost. The program is for two years.
