Library Company of Philadelphia Program in African American History Mellon Scholar Dissertation Fellowship

Designed to increase the participation of scholars from underrepresented backgrounds and others in the field of African American history prior to 1900. The fellowships promote research in residence in the collections of the Library Company and enhance the production of scholarly work in African American history of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Fellows are expected to conduct the majority of their research in the Library Company’s collections but may also use the collections of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Applicants must be in the later stages of research or writing

Library Company of Philadelphia Program in Early American Economy & Society

upport use of the collections for research in a variety of fields and disciplines relating to the history of America and the Atlantic world from the 17th through the 19th centuries. The holdings include the nation’s second largest collection of pre-1801 American imprints and one of the largest collections of 18th-century British books in America. Fellows must be continuously in residence at the Library Company in Philadelphia for the duration of their fellowships.

Library of Congress /John W. Kluge Center David B. Larson Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health and Spirituality

The Fellowship is for the scientific study of the relation of religiousness and spirituality to physical, mental, and social health through concentrated use of the collections of the Library of Congress, through full-time residency in the Library’s John W. Kluge Center. Arrangements may be made with the National Library of Medicine for access to its materials as well. The Fellowships are for 6 to 12 months.

Library of Congress John W. Kluge Center Kislak Short-term Fellowship for the Study of the Early Americas

The Fellowship is for research on the history and cultures of the Americas based on the Kislak Collection, a major collection of rare books, manuscripts, historic documents, maps and art of the Americas. The program supports research projects in the disciplines of archaeology, history, cartography, epigraphy, linguistics, ethno-history, ethnography, bibliography and sociology, with particular emphasis on Florida, the circum-Caribbean region and Mesoamerica. The fellowship offers support for three months.

Library of Congress/John W. Kluge Center Fellowship in Digital Studies

Fellowships support research that will generate deep, empirically-grounded understanding of the consequences of the digital revolution on how people think, how society functions, and on international relations using the Library’s collections and resources. Proposals may also explore and analyze emerging trends and new phenomena that may generate consequential changes in the future. All proposals must state the importance of the research to fundamental thinking about the human condition. The fellowship offers support for up to 11 months.

The Institute offers fellowships to doctoral students who are writing theses in fields that address the Institute’s primary interest areas in valuation and taxation, planning, and related topics to help improve decisions about land policy. Fellowships support the development of a thesis proposal and/or completion of thesis research. The fellowship offers support for one year.
