Scholarships

MMEG awards education grants on a competitive basis to exceptional women, who are at least 25 years old,  from developing countries who are enrolled as full-time students for the following academic term in accredited universities in the United States and Canada, have demonstrated financial need and are committed to working for the well-being of women and children

This scholarship is aimed at rewarding a select number of deserving students for their academic and personal achievements. We are seeking students who have demonstrated commitment to their heritage, community, and society through persistence, dedication, success and humility. The scholarship will be in the form of a check payable to the recipient and may be applied towards past, present, or future tuition expenses. Open to high school juniors or seniors, college/university students, and graduate students. There are no explicit nationality or citizenship requirements.

The Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), located in Washington, DC, conducts and communicates research to inspire public dialogue, shape policy, and improve the lives and opportunities of women of diverse backgrounds, circumstances, and experiences. In honor of pioneering feminist economist Mariam K. Chamberlain (MKC), IWPR offers a fellowship in public policy to a promising scholar each year. The Mariam K. Chamberlain Fellow contributes to a variety of research projects to inform policies affecting women.

Fellowships support master’s students working on topics pertinent to Marine Corps history. Topics may encompass wars, institutions, organization and administration, policy, biography, civil affairs and civic action, civil-military relations, weaponry and technology, manpower, training and education, strategy, tactics, and logistics, as well as diplomatic, political, economic, social, and intellectual trends affecting the Marine Corps in war and peace. The fellowship offers support for one year.

Grants are for graduate-level and advanced study in Marine Corps history and related fields. Topics may include wars, institutions, organization and administration, policy, biography, civil affairs and civic action, civil-military relations, weaponry and technology, manpower, training and education, strategy, tactics, and logistics, as well as the interaction of diplomatic, political, economic, social and intellectual trends affecting American military affairs during peace and war. Research may also deal with museum curatorial fields such as exhibit design, military art, ordinance uniforms, equipment, aviation and other related topics. The program gives preference to projects covering the pre-1991 period where records are declassified or can be most readily declassified and made available to scholars.

Eligibility:

The Fellowship is for a doctoral student working on a dissertation pertinent to Marine Corps history. Topics in U.S. military and naval history, as well as history and history-based studies in the social and behavioral sciences, with a direct relationship to the history of the United States Marine Corps will be considered. Topics may encompass wars, institutions, organization and administration, policy, biography, civil affairs and civic action, civil military relations, weaponry and technology, manpower, training and education, strategy, tactics, and logistics, as well as diplomatic, political, economic, social, and intellectual trends affecting the Marine Corps during peace and war. The Fellowship is for one year.

The competition is open to qualified doctoral students worldwide who are working on research questions with important marketing, societal, and policy implications. The fellowship supports dissertation research in marketing and related fields (e.g., psychology, economics, management, strategy, etc.). The grant is for one year.

Residential fellowships aim to increase the presence of currently underrepresented racial and cultural groups in the U.S. professoriate by providing support for doctoral candidates as they complete their dissertations. Fellows teach one course in their area of specialization. Applications are invited from the following academic areas: Anthropology, Communication Studies, Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Educational Policy and Leadership, English, History, Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, Philosophy, Political Science/International Relations, Psychology, Social Work/Welfare, Sociology, or Theology. The fellowship offers support for one year.  African-American, Native-American, and Hispanic-American candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

Awards are given annually to UNC students who, as judged by the MLK, Jr. Scholarship Committee, best exemplify Dr. King’s commitment to our society. Nominees are judged on the basis of the activities and contributions that demonstrate their commitment to civil/human rights and their desire to improve the quality of life of all members of University community.
