Schwarzman Scholars
Schwarzman Scholars gives the world’s best and brightest students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing – one of China’s most prestigious universities. Students spend a year immersed in an international community of thinkers, innovators and senior leaders in business, politics and society. This experience will expand students’ understanding of the world and create a growing network of global leaders for the future.
Award: Students pursue a Masters in Global Affairs, with concentrations in either public policy, economics and business, or international studies. The Schwarzman Scholars program also provides access to high-level interactions at lectures, an internship program, a mentors network, and intensive deep-dive travel seminars. The scholarship includes tuition fees, room and board, travel to and from Beijing, an in-country study tour, required course books and supplies, health insurance, and a stipend of $4,000 for personal expenses.
Criteria: Schwarzman Scholars will be selected on the basis of not only their (1) academic aptitude and intellectual ability, but also their (2) leadership potential, (3) entrepreneurial spirit, (4) ability to anticipate paradigm changes, (5) exemplary character, and (6) desire to understand other cultures, perspectives and positions.
Endorsement is no longer required to apply for the Schwarzman Scholarship. However, interested applicants are strongly encouraged to meet with the ODS director and send their application materials to ODS for review.
Eligibility
You must meet the following eligibility requirements to apply for the Schwarzman Scholars program:
- Must be on track to successfully complete all degree requirements by August 1st of the intended scholarship participation year before orientation begins
- Must be at least 18 but not yet 29 years of age as of August 1st of the intended scholarship participation year.
- Must demonstrate strong English skills (No English proficiency test required if English is your native language or if you graduated from an undergraduate institution where the primary language of instruction was English)

Applicants seeking review from ODS can submit the following materials:
- ODS Registration Form
- Essays
- Statement of leadership and purpose (750 words or less)
- Current affairs essay (500 words or less)
- Short answer questions (100 words or less)
- Current resume/CV
- Video
- All relevant transcripts
- 3 letters of recommendation
