Alumni in Law Office Hours: Bob Long ’80, Covington & Burling

April 12, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Honors Carolina is pleased to announce that UNC alumni with exciting careers in the legal field are volunteering their time and expertise to provide 1-on-1 conversations with you, via Zoom, to help you gain a better understanding of career options. You are invited to ask anything from general questions about their career path, advice for preparing for a career in law, or you can use the opportunity to expand your network.

On Wednesday, April 12 at 10:00 am, Bob Long ‘80 (law firm bio), Partner at Covington & Burling, will discuss his career in law, especially at the Supreme Court level, as well as your questions! Robert (Bob) Long co-chairs Covington’s Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation Group. He has argued 18 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and played a substantial role in the briefing or oral argument of more than 200 appeals. He is a former Assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States (the Solicitor General supervises government litigation in the Supreme Court), and also served as a law clerk to a Supreme Court justice and U.S. Court of Appeals justice. Bob earned a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was also a Morehead Cain Scholar and a National Merit Scholar, Phi Beta Kappa. He then earned a BA/MA from Oxford University in 1982 where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and then earned his J.D. at Yale School of Law.

You will receive a zoom link to join the session and instructions for pre-session preparation and follow-up actions as your registration is confirmed.
