Program Highlights
Students will spend the program visiting places that are leaders in carbon reduction, including: Munich, which is pursuing the ambitious goal of obtaining 100 percent of its energy from renewables by 2025; Wildspoldsried, a German town of 2,500 that sold about $7.8 million worth of renewable energy to the grid in 2012; Freiburg, Germany, the so-called renewable-energy capital of the world; and Sarriguren, Spain, a town of 11,000 that was built from scratch using renewable-energy and sustainable practices, and Copenhagen, which has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2025. Students will go on field trips, interview local citizens and experts, and then present the lessons they learn in the form of a class-run news website.
