PSYC 508H: Psychotherapy: Practice and Research (3 credits)

Professor Tom Rodebaugh
Pre-requisite: PSYC 101

This is a course on the treatment of psychological problems through the application of interventions grounded in psychological theory and focusing on behavior or mental processes. Students will become familiar with the more popular schools of psychotherapy, including their historical context, techniques, theoretical underpinnings, and research support. London provides an exciting historical context, from why talk therapy was revolutionary to Freud’s final offices. It also gives us a chance to see how psychotherapy can be integrated into a centralized national health agency that stands in contrast with the relatively unregulated world of psychotherapy in the USA.
