ECON 327H: Venture-Creation Workshop (3 credits)

Professor Chris Mumford

Sports Entrepreneurship presents many opportunities, particularly in soccer. In this course, we will explore traditional sport revenue drivers including ticketing, sponsorships, and merchandise with some of the most innovative soccer clubs with a global following. We research the digitization of sports content including the content created between the matches. We also best practice and implement unique fan engagement, novel merch, food/beverage offerings, and community outreach . Students will be organized into teams and deep dive into these areas and present findings and a presentation to the clients.

The course is designed to help students turn an idea into an enterprise. Students develop high resolution ideation and marketing skills. We develop expertise in high growth sports verticals using strategy principles and applying them to new technology trends. By the end of class, students will be able to discover, ideate, validate and accelerate sports ventures.

This course is part of the Shuford entrepreneurship minor. It is recommended to have taken ECON 125 and ECON 325 prior to the program but not required. Students do not need to be in the entrepreneurship minor to participate in the program.
